Why we love fair trade
green grass field
This is why we love fair trade. It protects artisans and their art. So what can you do to support fair trade? When buying handmade items check to see if they are labeled as fair trade.

I don’t remember the first time I heard the term “fair trade,” but I do remember that as soon as I learned what it meant it made absolute sense. As a global citizen, I understand more than ever how important fair trade is to keeping culture and traditions alive around the world.

There are so many reasons to love fair trade. It’s always nice to know that when you’re buying something, whether it’s a chocolate bar, a banana, a piece of clothing, or a backstrap woven purse, the people who helped produce that item were paid fairly for their work.

Fair wages mean not only a better life for the farmer, weaver, potter, etc. but a better life for their family and their community. What’s not to love about that?

The impact of fair trade goes beyond just the financial. For weavers and other artists and artisans around the world getting a fair wage might be the difference between continuing traditional techniques and giving them up for a more lucrative career. For example, fair trade alpaca products benefit hundreds of women in the Andes of Peru and Bolivia to provide better opportunities for their families.

If we really love our planet, and the people this should be a no-brainer proposition.

Become part of a community that aspires to a better world with action.

Divas fair trade is committed to fair trade since its inception back in 2002. Because we understand that as businesses and consumers we have the power to shape and educate our communities and the global communities with our purchasing decisions at the supermarket, in our office buildings, and how we affect those who make them.

It’s a love for the environment and what we want to leave as our legacy for the future generations who are teaching us a lot more about being respectful and careful of our resources while being more tolerant in a more diverse and connected world.

This is why we love fair trade. It protects artisans and their art. It protects the environment. It shows that we care about all the people involved in making the products we consume.

So what can you do to support fair trade?

  • When buying handmade items check to see if they are labeled as fair trade.
  • Seek out fair trade retailers or buy directly from the producer—thanks to the wonders of the internet many coops around the world now have online stores.
  • There are many local fair-trade shops in towns around the country and groups that sell fair trade at art shows, farmers’ markets, and craft fairs—you just need to keep an eye out for them!

Fair trade products are the perfect gifts for loved ones. You’ll not only have a one-of-a-kind gift to give, but you’ll also have the knowledge that your purchase went towards keeping tradition and culture alive while supporting a fair economic system that benefits us all who live in this beautiful place called planet earth.
